Let's Get Started...

I am a newly qualified surveyor working for Tayler and Fletcher in Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire. I have always wanted to visit Machu Picchu in Peru, so a couple of weeks ago when I found out the the RICS were organising a challenge to that very place, I could not resist signing up.

Now, my deposit has been paid, my medical form is sitting on my desk waiting to be completed and I have a long list of equipment I need for the daunting task ahead.

It is probably best to give you a quick overview of the trip.....

On 26th March 2011, we fly to Lima where we arrive at our hotel and stay for the night. The following day we fly from Lima to Cusco where we are allowed a day looking around the city.

Day Three is spent walking from Tambo Machay, an ancient ruin high in the Cusco valley, down to Sacsayhuaman, a huge Inca ruin on the outskirts of Cusco, we then return to the hotel. This walk is aimed at preparing us all for the altitude on the trek, something that worries me the most!

Day four we drive for three hours to the start of the Trek at Km82, from here we spend the next five days walking approximately 26 miles and climbing 4200m to the amazing site of Machu Picchu, hopefully all being well I will make it there to experience the amazing ruins myself!

Before all this can happen, I need to raise £3,400 in sponsorship. This will hopefully be done through kind donations from all my friends, family and colleagues, I also have a few ideas of fundraising events I will be persuading you all to support!

I have just received my first £5, from Martin Lambert, the fine art auctioneer where I work (Tayler and Fletcher, Bourton-on-the-Water! http://www.taylerandfletcher.co.uk/) Only £3395 to go.........
